Sara knew her choices would not be pleasing to her Islamist father, yet she had to discover the world outside of Aleppo, Syria.
Would her travels reward her adventurous spirit, or would fate only push her back to her homeland?
In a tale that resembles too many true-to-life stories, Sara represents not only a young Muslim woman fleeing from a war-torn land but people of all races, religions and backgrounds coming to terms with their repressive ideologies.
Can Sara overcome and embrace freedom, not just regarding the outward social and religious restrictions that have been placed on her such as FGM, child marriage and a father and husband devoted to ISIS, but in the way she has begun to believe the limitations of being a Muslim woman?
Will her passion to be free break the bonds that chain her heart and soul as strongly as her symbolic Burqa has hidden her from the world?
Join Sara on her journey to freedom, and in the journey, you may just find yourself. You might come from a different culture and situation, but your soul may resonate with the freedom she so desires.
Interview with the author
What made you want to write a book about a Syrian Muslim refugee as a white Caucasian male?
David The topic of women’s equality has weighed on me deeply of late, and as I began reading about the atrocities being done to women around the world, especially in the countries where female genital mutilation is being practiced by literally millions of women, it impressed me so greatly that the story literally wrote itself on the page.
What do you hope to see the book accomplish regarding impacting the reader?
My greatest concern would be that the world wakes up to what is being done in so many corners of the world and that we as a human race stand up and question each other whenever any person is being treated in a way that takes away their individual choices. I believe we all have the freedom to make choices for ourselves, and too often culture, religion, and politics have tried to make choices for us that take away our rightful freedoms and happiness.
Is this book part of a series that you are writing or is it a standalone story?
There will be a sequel coming out shortly, which is continuing the tale of Sara and her journey to step outside herself, and find joy in being the hands of healing and freedom to others.

What if you were born into a life of female repression and a world where girls were seen as possessions, subjected to genital mutilation and married off a young age without consent? This is what happens to Sara, who after reaching young teen years decides it’s time to escape her family and religion and venture off to discover her freedom and healing. This book was gripping, following turn after turn as she discovers who she really is, what the meaning of beauty is for her, and in the process finds true love. I kept reading this book, not wanting to put it down as I was so engrossed to see how it would all turn out - it holds your interest the whole time, and despite it being an out of the ordinary case of a refugee, it still comes across as a believable story line, handled very well by this author.
Enjoyable and fun read.
