In a country that has given up hope, Pastor Saul Thompson battles to keep his combination soup kitchen/homeless shelter open. Recently he has started to see Death, which he calls the Black Mantle, hovering over those about to die. Saul fears he is going insane, and only the moral support of his staff and his dedication to help the suffering keep him from collapsing. But when a man nicknamed Pink Cap comes to the soup kitchen, everything changes… it may be the Christmas miracle Saul needs to survive.

This was an odd book. Slightly depressing but also intriguing in a way. I had a lot of trouble getting into it because the beginning is very confusing with being pushed into a dystopian world and made to understand it all. Some things are explained on but not enough to fully understand how it all happened and why so many people are homeless. I have to say that I wasn't liking it in the beginning and I'm not quite sure I liked it in the end.It is intriguing, though. The fact Saul can see auras was interesting but no explanation on how that happened was given. I wouldn't consider this a romance either. In fact, it was kind of dark. It had a lot of purple prose that grew annoying in the end because those excessive adjectives took away from getting the questions I wanted answered. I did like Ben but we don't see much relationship between Saul and Ben develop.

The Colors of Pastor Saul edition by SA Garcia Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This is a very odd story, not so much the story itself but the wording. The writing is beautiful; at first I thought it was over the top but as I continued reading I realized that the wording was necessary for me to see the scenes in proper context. Sounds strange I know but I don't know any other way to put it.
For the most part this is a very dreary tale but definitely worth reading if you like a little stark reality with your holiday.
This isn't very long at all but because of the way it's written it lasts longer than most stories this length.
